May I suggest a form category called "Showcase of Sites" ? API users would submit their websites for evaluation here, then if approved by WP's webmaster, they would go into a showcase for others to see.
Subcategories of the "Showcase of Sites" category could be:
* Beta sites -- under development
* Production sites -- currently open to the public and accepted by the WP webmaster
* Webmaster's Picks -- Chosen by the WP webmaster to be the finest examples of API use
* Contest -- Your iPhone contest entrants and winners can go here
A chance to shine, as most webmasters are proud of their work. And if the other guy is doing a better job of it, a chance to improve. Either way, WP wins.
